CCH POUNDER PRESENTS: MILES REGIS- WE LIVE FOR WHO WE DIE FOR

(Atwater Village, CA)---Award-winning actress CCH Pounder (THE SHIELD) is proud to present Miles Regis in his debut exhibit at Pounder-Koné Art Space in Atwater Village, Los Angeles. “WL4WWD4” (We Live For Who We Die For) will open on Thursday, June 11, 2009, with a kick-off reception on Saturday, June 13, 2009 from 6:00 to 9:00pm. The exhibition runs until July 28, 2009.

Born in Trinidad, this self taught painter has been greatly influenced by Caribbean artists such as Alexander King, LeRoy Clarke, Carlisle Harris, Boscoe & Geoffrey Holder. Regis’ paintings are distinctly Trinidadian in color and expression. He has completely mastered the process of experimenting with contrasting textures, resulting in multi-media works which employ various types of paint, fabric, and found objects. Like a Caribbean backyard clothesline, the unframed paintings of Miles Regis hang freeform with everyday news. His works representing family, protection and daily life spill out on the canvas in graffitti-esque forms as if he only had a moment to scribble his thoughts before being run off by a conformist neighbor.

Regis’ work was recently showcased in CNN’s “African Voices” feature on actor Isaiah Washington, who collects Regis’ paintings; other collectors of Miles Regis’ work include actor Ron Perlman and playwright Trevor Rhone.

The Pounder-Koné Art Space (www.cchpkas.com) is located at 3407 Glendale Boulevard in Los Angeles and was established to focus on visual art of the African Diaspora as well as from Los Angeles artists. Recent exhibitions have included “Cooperative” featuring works by painters Loren Holland, Elizabeth Colomba, Tamara Natalie Madden and Tonya Engel; by writers Tananarive Due and Lisa Teasley and by filmmakers S. Pearl Sharp and Akosua Adoma Owusu. Pounder-Koné’s 2008-2009 season has also included Toni Scott’s “Bloodlines,” Tomas Owen’s “Pleasure and Misery” and “Three Man Show” featuring Richard Ewan, Yrneh Brown and Tony Ramos. CCH Pounder and Boubacar Koné own the Pounder-Koné Art Space as well as the Musée Boribana in Dakar, Senegal.

For further information and to R.S.V.P for the June 13th reception of “We Live For What We Die For,” please call 323.913.2247.
